Faye Clarke

Occupational Therapist

I qualified over 20 years ago and have a wealth of experience in adult mental health as well as in trauma informed approaches with young people. As well as my private practise I presently work with young people in the care system, with their carers and foster parents and with organisations that support them. I am the therapeutic lead in an outdoor learning provision I helped to develop two years ago. This service is for those who are not able to access mainstream or specialist schooling and need a unique, tailored and therapeutic approach to their learning experience.

Working with young people is a priviledge. With a philosophy of the relationship being central to supporting those who are struggling with all that life has given them, I make it a priority to connect with them on their terms. Through this relationship and using meaningful activity, play and exploration we can make a collaborative plan and work towards reaching their potential. This can be through learning about how their mind, body and behaviours are connected, through learning how they uniquely interact with the sensory world around them, through individualised strategies and skills to empower them to cope with their experiences and also through educating those around them to understand their experience and respond flexibly and confidently.

As well as being a state registered Occupational Therapist, I have experience and understanding of trauma and attachment. I integrate my experience of sensory processing to support interventions, strategies and approaches. I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Whilst I am based in Ampthill in Bedfordshire I mostly see people in their own homes or in schools. I am also happy to work virtually and as such there are no limitations to how far away you are.

What is Occupational Therapy?

An occupational therapist sees the world through their client’s eyes. Always taking a person centred perspective, they start with finding out what is important to you, what you want to do that is difficult for you and where you want to get to. This is the foundation of all support. Using meaningful activity and a tool box of approaches, strategies and interventions they work collaboratively, at your pace to get you where you want to be.
